Living in Osnabrück

Osnabrück is a lively student city with many historical buildings. It is located in the north-west of Germany. Even though Osnabrück with its 165.000 inhabitants is fairly small in comparison to other cities in Germany, it has a lot in store, especially for students. It offers a wide variety of bars, restaurants and clubs as well as cultural facilities. Quite a few festivals take place in Osnabrück on a regular basis.

You will find more information on Osnabrück here.

Hotel rooms for all participants will be booked by the organizers.

Directions

The summer school will take place at the Institute for musicolgy and music education in the main building of the 17th-century palace of Osnabrück (postal address: Neuer Graben 29).

You will find a plan of the city on google maps or (incl. car parks and hotels) here.

You will find a survey map of the buildings of the university in the city center here. (The "Schloss", i.e. the palace, is no. 11).

Travelling by Car

Car parks close to the palace are liable to fees, so make sure to ask for a parking at your hotel before you arrive.

You will find directions to Osnabrück via the Autobahn here.

Travelling by Train

You will find information on the German train system in English and many other languages on the webside of Deutsche Bahn (klick "Deutschland" in the top line of the web side). Please always check the connections for your specific day and time of travel since they may vary.

It takes a 15 minutes walk from Osnabrück main station to the palace (see the map: walk straight out of the "Hauptbahnhof"/station, cross a little river, pass a Hospital and a church to your left. Having passed the church turn right and at the second street left, walk straight until you reach the "Schloss").

In front of the station you will find taxis and busses. Busses from bus stop 1 ("Bussteig 1") go to the city center. The two bus stops closest to the palace are "Neumarkt" and "Osnabrückhalle/Universität" (not all busses stop here).
